Moving Forward

Hello everyone,

Alisha‘s decision to step down as co-administrator of NHF has been a shock, but her and Kate‘s absences have also made us realise that there are technical issues that can only be handled by Kate who owns the board and is the number 1 board administrator with full control over it.

To secure the continued existence of our community and also to be able to move on, we have decided to continue our activities on a new board that will be linked to NHF which will serve as an archive.

Doing it like that would mean that if ever anything did happen to NHF we would not have to start again from scratch.

We will therefore be happy to welcome you on Nigel Harman Website Forum ....

As you can see the site looks very similar to NHF as it is meant to be a continuance of the board not a breakaway from it.

Meena has turned off registration on NHF and the website will now direct you to the new board.Any current NHF members who decide to register will have all their post counts transferred and hopefully our community will continue more or less as before.

Meena is fully aware of these changes and after long discussions with her it has been agreed that this is the best way forward.

I thought someone else would take over as Admin, I wasn't expecting there to be a whole new site.

Would it be possible for everything on here to get transferred to the new one? I don't know much about setting up websites so don't know how hard that would be. I'm sure the new site will be great, but it's taken since 2005 to get all the subforums for all the past projects here and to have over 4000 people join, I just feel it's a shame to lose everything.

It was a very difficult decision but the thing is that a site cannot run without an admin, especially the root admin who actually owns the board.

As you are all aware Kate has not been on the site for a year so this board could not be transferred into someone else's control as there are processes that only she could do to complete the transfer.

As Kate could not be contacted we had little choice but to construct a new board while trying to keep NHF visible.

Believe me this was not an easy decision but by doing it like this it will secure the new site and we can transfer as much of NHF over to the new board as we like,Ella has made a start but it will take a little time.It would be great to transfer everything and if you would like to help it would be much appreciated.

I don't say it would ever happen but a root admin who has left a board could come back many months later and completely delete it,I have seen this happen and it is quite awful,it happened twice on NHO and it took weeks to completely rebuild it.

By building a new board now we know that nothing like this will ever happen.

I hope that explains a little the reasons behind the move but if there's anything else we can explain please just ask.

Just call me stupid :unsure: - I'll now go back and reopen topics that I've closed and everyone can start transferring info onto the new site :D

Fair enough, I didn't realise Kate had to do it, I thought Meena could.

I'm probably over reacting, I just don't like change but I'll get used to it! I just think it would be good if all the past projects forums were moved so we can't lose them all, I'd be happy to help if you'd like.

No, * deep sigh* I'm not too keen on all this change but I'm sure we'll all get through it :scared:

If you could do the Past Project forum that would be one sorted and would be a great help :clapping:

At the moment Ella has put a link to NHF in each topic but the topics themselves reposted would be ideal.

I'll open up the topics again - I suppose it's something to keep us all busy until we have a new Nigel project to work on :lol:

Many thanks for all your hard work. I am useless on anything technical and so I cant offer to help... but I want to say how much I appreciate everyone's efforts in the reorgnisation. I would be lost without my Nigel Harman website!!
