Title: Computer Viruses
Description: A Place to Post Warnings!

Sparkle - April 2, 2007 11:25 PM (GMT)
Seeing as most of us use the internet frequently  I thought it might be an idea to have a place where we can let each other know about virus warnings etc.

We all know how quick the NHF bush telegraph is and it may just save someone a lot of heartache! Afterall none of us would like to be deprived of our Nigel fix! :scared:

********************************************************************

I recently received a warning about a virus doing the rounds on MSN. When you sign in, or are in the middle of an MSN session you receive a message from one of your contacts telling you (in everyday English) that they have found a shocking picture of you on the internet and provides a link to the page for you to access it.

Do not click on the link.

As soon as you do, it begins to download onto your computer and subsequently sends the same message to every contact you have and so it spreads.

If you have been unlucky enough to have clicked on it, you need to delete MSN from your computer completely, then delete all the shortcuts from your desktop, empty your trash can and restart your computer. You can then download MSN again but will have lost your smilies and contacts.

tehre's another virus doing its rounds on MSN. i've had the invitation for it being sent a couple of times (and foolishly accpeted it once which messed up my computer) so had to re-install MSN.
its like what Sparkle mentioned-you get the invitation that your friend wants to send you something-in this case a photo album. I got messages like:
'I have made this album for you. its an album of my life. It took me hours.'
and
'lol your sister wanted me to send you this.'
the virus is called 'photo album!'
whatever you do do not accept!.

The virus that Sparkle has mentioned has been messaged to me a couple of times before but I didn't click on the link but if you were unfortunate to have done so, your anti-virus protection like Norton for example will not detect it! So you can either un-install msn and do what Sparkle has said or create a new msn account where you can add all your contacts from your old list. :)

I've just been sent this email <_<

VERY IMPORTANT WARNING,

Please Be Extremely Careful especially if using internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning direct from both Microsoft and Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet.

You may receive an apparently harmless email with a Power Point presentation

"Life is beautiful."

If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and delete it immediately. If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: "It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful." Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.

AOL has alre ady confirmed the severity, and the antivirus software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself "life owner."

PrincessRose - April 12, 2007 08:26 PM (GMT)
Seriously everybody, learn from my mistake: Back Up Your Files!

I've just spent most of this week crying over the fact that all my nigel/tish/leslie/ee as well as other vids have all now gone (for good  ) because my computuer won't start and no one seems to know how to fix it or even reboot it. So now I'm kicking myself for losing all my vids as well as all the music videos I made which stupid YouTube won't let me have back.

So don't make the same mistake I did!

Thanks for the new warning Pickle :thumb:

And PrincessRose - so sorry to hear about that! I would be devastated to lose all my stuff :console:

Pickle - April 13, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)

Amanda - April 18, 2007 09:43 AM (GMT)
I've just had notification of the following from a friend of mine:

Do not open any message with an attached file called "Invitation"
regardless of who sent it, It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch
which "burns" the whole hard disc C of your computer.

Ella - April 18, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all the updates on the virus front :thumb: :furious:

Obviously people creating these viruses have too much time on their hands, they should get a life.

Pickle - December 11, 2007 03:50 PM (GMT)
Thought I'd bump this topic back up as I've received these emails recently

QUOTE
You should be alert during the next days:

Do not open any message with an attached file called 'Merry Christmas'
regardless of who sent it, It is a virus that opens as an Open Log Fire
and will burn the whole hard disc in your computer.

This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in
his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to all your
contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the
virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called 'Merry Christmas', though sent by a friend,
do not open it and shut down your computer immediately. This is the
worst virus announced, it has been classified by Microsoft as the most
destructive virus ever.

This virus was discovered recently, and there is no repair yet for this
kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the
Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept

This one's not about viruses but it's still important especially at this time of year

Postal Scam

Can you circulate this around especially
as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The
Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery
Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that
you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT
call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize .

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will
already have been billed £15 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal
Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator)
at www.icstis.org.uk <http://www.icstis.org.uk/>

There's some nasty people out there!!! :( :@

Pickle - January 24, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
<_< WHY do people do this?!? Are their lives so empty they have to make everyone elses just as bad

Got this email today....

If somebody called bm_toon7@ hotmail.com adds you to their account/invites you - DON'T accept it because it's a hacker. Tell everyone on your list because if somebody on yours adds them, you get them on your list and he'll figure out your ID computer address.

So copy and paste this message to everyone even if you don't like them and fast..because if he hacks their mail, he hacks yours!

Pickle - February 14, 2008 01:41 PM (GMT)
 <_<

Emails with pictures of Osama Bin-Laden hanged are being sent and the moment that you open these emails your computer will crash and you will not be able to fix it!

If you get an email along the lines of 'Osama Bin Laden Captured'

or 'Osama Hanged' don't open the attachment.

This e-mail is being distributed through countries around the globe ..
Be considerate & send this warning to whomever you know.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS:
