Title: Posts/Posting
Description: Please Read
Alisha - December 26, 2006 01:04 PM (GMT)
Hello everyone, I really didn’t want to raise this up but with the state of some of the posts over the last couple of months, I feel the need to. Again, this is not representative of all members.
One of the main things I have noticed recently is the amount of new members registering just to state how “fit” Nigel is. Whilst we don’t mind comments concerning his physical appearance, we don’t want this to be the main theme running through NHF. That’s not what we’re about. If you’ve only joined to state how gorgeous he is and how much you fancy him, then sorry you’re in the wrong place. To be a genuine fan, you have to have a respect and appreciation for his acting and work (not just his looks). We are a mature community here and Nigel’s career/projects at NHF is our prime focus.
Furthermore, members need to take extra care with grammar. We don’t mind mistakes here and never have done. If you miss the odd letter, comma, apostrophise or question mark then it’s completely fine. You wont be pulled up over it. It happens to all of us, including myself. However, the point is not to have it does excessively. This is when it makes it difficult to read. Not only that, the lack of capital letters and full stops makes threads look messy. Capital letters and full stops are not difficult and it makes all the difference when reading (and understanding a post). Do take note! Also, please do consider the non-British members.
Although there is still some traces of text talk here and there (which we do still pull up on) it has gone down since our last announcement so thank you everyone for making an effort.
The last thing is pointless threads and post bumping. For new members, I’ll let that pass as I know it can take a while to find your feet and understand how the board works. However (the odd few) members who have been here long enough and continuously post pointless threads is unnecessary. Moreover, please don’t post bump. It makes the board messy and it’s a silly way to increase post count. Being a member isn’t about how many posts you have (especially when a lot of what you say is one line each post). By doing this, you won’t get passwords any quicker! This doesn’t go for all members but a lot of what’s said in five posts can be said in one.
Thanks for reading everyone! :thumb:
Remember posting should be fun but a regard for the rules is compulsory and taking on board the points I’ve just raised would be much appreciated. :)

Thankyou for bringing this up Meena. This is a very valid point that everyone must take into account.
NHF prides itself on being a mature place where people can come and talk about Nigel to their hearts content  And I have met so many friends for life through this place
But, like Meena said, there have been so many members signing up to just post about how "fit" Nige is. Of course he is stunningly beautiful  but there is so much more to him than that. SO much more. Nigel's career is our main focus. He is a seriously good actor who has defied everyones beliefs and has just got better and better since EastEnders.
This site prides itself on being 100% Nigel. There are so many fantastic threads about his various ventures (Caretaker, EE, G+D) so it also upsets me that some members spend most, if not all, of their time in Off Topic Chat.
Yes, I do spend time in there, but I also contribute to the Nigel based topics, as I joined this site (as I hope everyone else did) for Nigel.
Again, as Meena mentioned, Post Bumping is unneccasary and it does make the board untidy. If you just make sure you have a good look around all the forum before posting a new topic, to check that there isn't already an existing one. I know sometimes this can't be helped and that is perfectly understandable. Post bumping will not get you the password to the protected forums any quicker.
The posting of excessive smilies in each post is also uneccasary. I know that I tend to post a lot of smilies, but not in every post and I am now trying to limit this.
I don't mean to sound mean or patronising, but I love NHF like a second home  I just want it to be a place that everyone can feel at home in and live in perfect Harmany

I agree 100% with everything you've both said. I am the first to admit my spelling is not the best but i am working on it. :thumb:.

Thank you. Just thank you Alisha.
Dear members who feel targeted in them posts, you're very lucky to have Alisha as a Co-Admin. Because God knows (as does Jem) that not a lot of people could have explained the situation without any sarcasm and harshness.
Anyway I completely agree with the points you've raised Alisha and Jem.
You know what is my main problem in all this? The fact that I've been 'away' for a few months, and I come back to find this place full of post bumping, silly posts and millions of smilies.
And I know it's not all the members. I'm perfectly aware of that. But the bunch who're doing that are, to a certain degree, ruining this place. Yes, IMO they are.
We are ALL here for Nigel. We ALL find him 'fit' and 'gorgeous' and 'perfect', but why the need to bring this up in every single post?
And yes, we all (I do) have a certain fondness for some people on here. But why the need to put it in HUGE CAPITALS, and 75647657567 smilies in a signature? Is it really necessary? I don't think so.
You don't need to be OTT to be understood or be accepted. It doesn't work like that. And mind you, people do notice when you spend nearly all your time in the Off Topic chat, bumping threads. The Mods and Admins do browse this forum.
It's just that, that bunch of members don't really understand why NHF was created. Not because Kate needed a new place for Chitchat. But because she wanted a place where everyone could talk about Nigel, share our opinions about his work and so on.....with a bit of Chit-chat on the side. Only on the side.
*Pot. Kettle . Black. I know! *
Anyway I'm done here.
;)
P.S: And I am a non-British member!

You are so right.
You cant imagine how much this site means to me, especially because this is for me the only way to find news about Nigel, your storys and reviews mean the world to me.
I am so gratefull for all the hard work you put into this site, from the bottom of my heart thank you and keep up the good work

I just wanted to add that I love spending the free time I get at Nigel Harman Fansite. I find the message board very mature and grounded. Its all about Nigel and I thank everyone for keeping Nigel the centre point of discussion.
Regarding your comment Alisha, I do see the odd posts relating to your post with messy grammar and fit comments but I just skip them. :ermm: I won't even attempt to read them. I find it hard to understand the posts of some members and I am British!!
Alisha - December 26, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
I can certainly see where you’re all coming from and I’m really glad I started this thread.
I just want to say sorry, as I haven’t been around to keep a close eye on posts. It really cannot be helped. I'm in my final year at university so you can imagine my workload is enormous, not to mention I also work part time and do additional voluntary work. I know the rest of the staff here also have a lot going on right now, so to be fair we cant be here all the time moderating posts.
This thread is not a pop at all the members. Like most of the time, it's down to a minority. I know who this minority is but I wont be naming and shaming.
Sorry if some comments in the thread come across harsh but maintaining the quality of NHF is a central part of the board and unfortunately it's slipped lately. Despite pm'ing certain members about this, it only takes a week before they are back to doing it, so you can imagine how frustrating it must be for the staff.
NHF rules are not hard to follow and we are a friendly place to be. The fact that it's so laid back and people get on with everyone is great. I absolutely love it here but some posts here have become so off-putting and it case of skipping them and it shouldn’t be that way. It’s the same case for members who have spoken to me about this so please don’t be fooled into thinking, it’s just me saying this for the hell of it. I’m genuinely thinking of everyone here.
Most people here know I’m as happy as bunny and talkative little girl who loves her members but at the end of the day, I still have an obligation the board and to Nigel. We have a great reputation and I don’t want that ruined. I wouldn’t have bought this up if I didn’t think there was any need.

Thank you for bringing this up Alisha :thumb:
I am sure NHF is the right place for Nigel's fans no matter how young or old they are, and by fans I mean those who do not just fancy him because of his good looks, but who mainly and above all appreciate him as an actor/performer.
What I have always found irritating are fans joining just to tell us how fit Nigel is, or how much fitter somebody else is.
I am one of the non-British members and I can read and understand text talk very well but still think it is a rather childish and careless way of communicating unless you are on your mobile. Using lol and hehe as a sort of punctuation also points in the direction of immaturity in my opinion.
If you are new it only takes a little time and effort to find out how the board works and you will love it just as much as I do. If that is possible.
Sorry if I offended anyone, but that is how I feel.

fabulous points meena and jem. i'm glad you brought this up meena. I too have noticed a lot of post bumping going on in recent times. i used to be guilty of this, but i dont do it much now...why post about five, short posts when you can make it into one longer post? its much tidier, and you could always use the edit button, which would make life a whole lot asier./
secondly i have also noticed the threads concering 'how fit' nigel is, which is perfectly fine, but why not post that in an existing thread that discusses nigels looks, and and also take part n the other amazing discussions there re on this boar about nigles career, and work..nigel is much more than he looks, he is a fantastic actor and has proved he is much more than a sex symbol, a soap actor, so if you're a true dedicated fan, you admire him for his work and dont just come to talk about nigeles looks.
some members, i have find dont use punctuations marks properly, and it could just be me, but i find it really annoying, as without full stops or commas not so much capitals but the sentences dont make any sense and it takes time for me to figure out what you're trying to say. its only one press of a button, it isn't difficult.
NHF is a friendly communitee dedicated to nigel and i have made some fabulous friends out of here and thank you so much...this site is lie my second home too and its just great that we have such a friendly comunitee, to discuss our favourite man!

I just want to pick up on this.
Smilies are great for expression and we all love using them.
However there is absolutely no need to go crazy with them and when I mean crazy, I mean 20 words and 90 smilies in a single paragrah - which I've just spotted now. That hardly constitutes as a comment now, not to mention it looking untidy.
Don’t hesitate in using them but when you see a paragraph (or a list of them running down the page) it looks very silly and pointless.

I know. It really keeps you from reading the post doesn't it?
I have to admit that most of the time I don't even bother.
Two examples.
'I love Nigel he's fit and gorgeous I've met him too and he's so talented I love him!'
1. God Nigel is so fit and gorgeous. I've met him too, so talented.
Love him!
2. Nigel is so fit!!! :thud:  :dancing:
I've met him too! So gorgeous!!! :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud:
He's so talented I love him so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hehe!!!!!!     :dancing: :thud:  :cloud9:
Love you all! xxxxxxxx
See the difference?
I do.

Certainly and when you have post beyond post like that, it becomes tedious.
ShannisIsFab-ILoveNigel - December 29, 2006 04:20 PM (GMT)
totally...and more time is spent trloing through smilies than reading the actual post.
Kate - January 5, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
Regarding the above post ( :) ) those who continue to break our text talk and grammar rule will have this slapped in their post.

And please don't continue to do this to just have this posted in your message ( ) I know its nice to look at Moody Dennis but don't rock the boat.
We're deadly serious about our rules at NHF. :rules: So keep that thought in mind.
Thank you.
Alisha - January 7, 2007 10:56 AM (GMT)
Kate, that is excellent  :clapping:
Totally agree with the above. This is a rule breaker sig so please bare that in mind. :)
Diara - January 8, 2007 01:34 PM (GMT)
Loving this.
I gotta say that the pic is quite attractive.
I promise I won't. :P
P.S. This is serious stuff! You people really don't want to mess with Kate. I wouldn't. :scared:
