Title: Changes To Fiction Forum
Kate - March 8, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
From today, the fiction forum will be password protected to protect our members work.
I've noticed recently a lot of members reading fictions and not replying which I find very unfair. The least you can do a is leave a reply. I've also noticed some members are only active in the fiction forum when we are supposed to be a Nigel Harman Fansite not a fiction site.
So with that said, the requirements to enter is 100 posts. The requirement is not major and I'm sure you'll find the majority of you have 100 post anyway. But those who continue to read fictions and not reply will have the password taken off them once issued.
Please PM Alisha or a Mod for the Password.
Thank you
Kate - March 8, 2006 05:34 PM (GMT)
Also can I add that if you want the password ASAP then PM the first mod you see online :thumb:
Kate - March 8, 2006 06:40 PM (GMT)
Two More Things...
Firstly, I've answered a few PM's but can you PM Alisha or a Mod for the password instead please? This is only because I don't want to get confused with the Video Clip password and give that out instead.
Secondly, the members who have PM me, I just want to say thank you for being supportive with this new change :thumb: Passwording the fiction forum has always been an option, especially with members with a zero post count (AND members who a post count) reading the fictions and not replying - so hopefully this way you're work will stay protected and you'll get the feedback you deserve. :D
Shannisshipper - March 9, 2006 11:06 AM (GMT)
How are you supposed to get to 100 posts if you can't get access to the fiction forum? I'm a newbie and I work so I don't have the time to take part to all the discussions around. Besides I know Nigel only from EE as I don't live in Britain. How am I supposed to know about him outside his part as Dennis. I confess to being here to talk about Dennis and Shannis fanfic. Am I not welcome then? I feel a bit hurt by this new measure, I must say. :/
Kate - March 9, 2006 11:20 AM (GMT)
Of course you're welcome here but there are other forums here other than the fiction forum to increase your post count...
These new measure have been brought in to protect other members work. I don't want their work/idea's being stolen and I find it unfair with members with a low post count reading their fictions and not replying.
If you have a fiction to post then the staff will decide whether you can have it or not.
But the rule of the forum being passworded is not changing sorry.
Harmanizing - March 9, 2006 11:26 AM (GMT)
I agree with Kate. I have only been a member for about two weeks, how can I get to 100 posts if I can't access the forum?. The fictions page is my favourite and is the one I have used the most. I have answered some of the newer posts but I admit I haven't always replied to the older 'finished' fiction, as I didn't think the writers would still be expecting a reply once the fiction was finished. If I am wrong in this assumption, I appologise, it was in no way meant to insult or cause problems to anybody. I have also posted on the Writing to Nigel page.
gemsie - March 9, 2006 11:34 AM (GMT)
Kate, you are absolurtely right to put a password onto the fics forum.
I post my fics in the thread and read other peoples threads and always reply if i read them, sometimes i get behind because i forget wich ones I'v e been reading and which ones i haven't
But i do post on the otherthreads too because afterall we're all here for nigel and even if you haven't got info on what he is up to career wise you can still find out here and post your opinion.
the fics forum is just a bit of fun the end of the day.... :D
Kate - March 9, 2006 11:36 AM (GMT)
I know its hard for the members who enjoy reading the fictions but we're a Nigel site, not just a fiction site. With the older fictions, I doubt the author's who wrote the fictions would mind you submitting a comment but then I can understand you didn't want to bump them up as they were finished.
100 posts is not hard to reach once you get chatting  It could be 500 and then I could understand you complaining! If you still think its unfair then I'll have to discuss it with the Staff here.
Liz - March 9, 2006 11:48 AM (GMT)
I've PM'd Kate about this saying I totally agree too. I'm a bit strange where I can't bring myself to read Dennis fics but I do reply to the fics that I read and it is all part of the fun........but thats what it is part of the fun. We're much more than a Fics board and thank goodness for that. We're a community that shares news, goss, personal highlights :dancing: a bit of light relief :rude: and fics is only a part of that.
Also as someone who does write a Fic I feel better that people who read it are a part of our community and hopefully enjoy my work. They are also less likely to palm my work off as their own and I have heard of instances in which this does happen. :(
Kate - March 9, 2006 11:51 AM (GMT)
Thanks Liz  :D And thanks to gemsie! :D
gemsie - March 9, 2006 11:52 AM (GMT)
Starr - March 9, 2006 11:54 AM (GMT)
I have to say i support the decision to password the fiction forum. I don't see what the problem is, all that's really being asked is for members to give a little to the site through participating in disscusions elsewhere in the forum. It's hardly fair on the members who have put in time and effort to write the fictions, for others just to read through them and not give anything back.
Also, 100 posts is not really that much, once you get talking to people you will have reached it before you know it! Don't be shy about posting either, you'll get to know some fab people here and have a great time! :thumb:
Diara - March 9, 2006 11:54 AM (GMT)
Living outside the UK myself, (I live in Paris if anyone wants to know) I don't see what's the big deal.
It's a good idea to 'password' the Fictions forum. Most of us (I hope ALL of us )joined NHF to talk about Nigel and the Fictions forum is only a bonus, some members kindly share their work and I thank them all for that. But being active only in THAT forum IMO is not right. And Kate's right, once you get caught in the Nigel Madness, it's easy to get to 100 posts.
Kate - March 9, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
Thanks Everyone! And if you still struggle to get to 100 posts just stalk Diara, she'll chat with you! :giggle:
Diara - March 9, 2006 12:28 PM (GMT)
 What's wrong with me? Oh right I get it. :giggle:
More seriously, I know sometimes you get carried away in other forums (Randomness everyone? )and I don't think it's so wrong but we should set our priorities straight. At least contribute (you know what I mean) in other threads instead of one. And anyway, what's the point in joining the
NIGEL HARMAN FANSITE if its not to chat about the MAN first? If some members didn't post their fics, would you chat with us about Nigel?
NIGEL IS THE REASON WHY I JOINED THE BOARD
Let's sing it together.
Helen - March 9, 2006 12:32 PM (GMT)
Thank you Diara, nicely put
Im singing with you

EDIT: For your sake, don't read this post, you'll end up blind if you look at the claps.
Highlypsycotic - March 9, 2006 01:14 PM (GMT)
It's not that hard to get 100 posts people!
I couldn't beleive how quickly i managed it.....hmmm maybe i DO talk to much
Shannisshipper - March 9, 2006 02:36 PM (GMT)
Couldn't you lower your threshold to fifty? This is high enough already. I am a member of other EE, shannis or Nigel Harman forums and although I believe I take part to a lot of discussions and review fics whenever I can, I have not reached 40 entries yet. What else can I do?
Kate - March 9, 2006 02:43 PM (GMT)
50 posts? I think 100 is more than fair
Shannisshipper - March 9, 2006 02:44 PM (GMT)
As I was about to embark on the mighty task of reaching 100 posts, I realize it can't be done. Should I talk about a musical I haven't seen? A TV program I cannot watch, when there are topics which I know and can talk about, namely Dennis and fan fiction as I am a writer myself for other fandoms. I realize also then that there is not much point in my staying here.
I'm sorry I will miss a lot of the fics that are posted on this site in particular Burning Desire.
I'll give myself this afternoon to think about it though.
Alisha - March 9, 2006 02:46 PM (GMT)
100 posts is not a lot to get. I'm also another person who is part of several forums and has personal commitments too. Raising your post count by 100 obviously won’t happen over night but it won’t take forever either. Just be a bit patient please. :)
Personally, what I find unfair is when new members come in with no post count and just come here for the fictions and not post. It's not on. This is not a fiction site, it’s a Nigel site. This was the main reason why the post count emerged.
We may re-consider the entry requirements but we're not promising anything at this stage. :thumb:
Shannisshipper, you can still reply to Nigel forum and that shouldn't be difficult for anyone. There are plenty of topics there and ee/shannis forum. It is possible. If you are here mostly for the fictions then this is not the right place for you I'm afraid.
Diara - March 9, 2006 02:47 PM (GMT)
Look. There's PLENTY threads in which you could chat with us. We got a Random Nigel Chat, we got the Off Topic Chats in which we could learn a bit more about you. You said you lived outside the UK and that apart from EE, you don't have the opportunity to see Nigel elsewhere. Like I said earlier, I don't live in the UK and NO, I unfortunately didn't get the chance to see him on stage. But I still chat on other threads than the EE ones or the Fiction ones. I still have fun on here. It doesn't mean you can't contribute.
I personally think 100 posts is okay. Not because I've made it to 100 posts but because it's fair on the Fics writers, the Admins and Mods who maybe don't want this board to be ONLY a Fictions Forum or a Video Clips forum.(Not talking about you here) I'm sure you can understand that.
Liz - March 9, 2006 02:49 PM (GMT)
Kate, try as you might you can't please everybody. If anything, this thread has shown that the majority is happy with the decision, majority rules!

Kate - March 9, 2006 02:49 PM (GMT)
You're making out you're just here for the fictions when the fiction forum is just a small part of this site?!
This site is about Nigel - not the fictions. Can't you take that in to consideration and respect why we have done this? We are not doing it to make fun for ourselves. I thought members here were members for Nigel - not fictions! (I know the majority are here for Nigel  ) but to leave over this is just OTT!

I just don't see your point here. I DON'T live in the UK and I didn't see Guys and Dolls. Do you think it keeps me from having fun talking about Nigel here? This is my opinion but I have the feeling you joined only to read the fics or to post yours. Just correct me if I'm wrong. If you leave only because Kate decided to 'password' it, I'm sorry but I don't think you're in the right place.
Shannisshipper - March 9, 2006 02:58 PM (GMT)
A ceasefire would be welcome at this point... Shutting up now.
Diara - March 9, 2006 03:03 PM (GMT)
Look. Could you try to see it from the Admins' point of you instead of yours? Okay you wanted to read the fics, okay maybe you wanted to post yours but don't you think there's a reason why it was done?
EDIT: This is winding me up for no reason, I should let it go. I agree with your decision Kate and I respect it.

Shannisshipper - March 9, 2006 03:08 PM (GMT)
You know what I'm taking up the challenge. I might be wrong after all.
I'm sorry I pass off as very selfish or self-centered. I'll abide by the rules. I don't really have a choice anyway. Who knows I might actually have fun chatting away... If I go on posting on this thread I'll get to the 100 mark easy, won't I? LOL.
I have taken part to three other threads outside this one only today!!! If you don't mind my participation to be Dennis-coloured...
Diara - March 9, 2006 03:14 PM (GMT)
I'm all calmed down now.
Well, we got a few threads in the Off Topic Chat in which you could tell us where you live (as you said you don't live in the UK), if you got a job, plenty opportunities for us to get know you and for you to settle on here. And the Nigel Harman Chat is full of threads in which we could share our madness.
Have fun posting.

I'm pleased to see that you have reconsidered, you have probably chatted to more people today that you ever did when you only read fictions,it helps to get to know members and especially the ones who actually write fiction for you to enjoy.
I've been on sites where passwords are issued on 500 and 1000 posts so I personally think 100 is very reasonable.
Living outside the UK makes the site even more special for you as it may be one of your main sources for information on Nigels' work so please keep popping in and giving us your input, every member is important to us and it is your involvement that makes it so successful.

I'm glad to hear that you'll give it a go :) You'll hit 100 in no time and you'll make some wonderful friends if you give it a chance.
Thanks again :) It means a lot.

Sorry for having been a bit b****y before, but now is not a really good time in my personal life and I tend to get carried away. But hey! 16 posts already :hot:
Kate - March 9, 2006 04:14 PM (GMT)
No need to apologise :) I know change can be hard here especially when you're on the other side of the fence with a low post count (if that makes sense ) but you'll get there in to time the more you contribute! Trust me! :)

I totally agree. I admit it, i sometimes just read through the fictions and don't really reply. I am sorry but i always forget about it and i agree the forum isn't about fiction it is about the lovely Nigel Harman and i will contribute alot more posts!!!
